WRITER AND TRANSLATOR
(Tirana, Albania 1955) is a writer and translator with a degree in Albanian Literature and Philology at Tirana University.
He was a screenwriter at the national film studio from 1979 to 1981, when he was kept under house arrest and sent to prison. He was convicted twice for subversive propaganda until 1991. He has lived in exile, first in Budapest (1992-1995), and later in Barcelona (since 1997). He worked in this city as a member of the International Writers’ Parliament (1998-2000) and as advisor to the CCCB managing director (2001-2011). His literary works have been published in several languages and he has been granted national and international awards. He is also a literary, philosophy and social sciences translator (Camus, Borges, Cortázar, Rodoreda, García Márquez, Bernardo Atxaga, Cabré, Bolaño, Javier Marías, Javier Cercas, and Kirmen Uribe, among other authors).
